Look's like the culprit is still going through the after effects of his loss of power. Being an SLC Admin and having power over 4 users must have been his only place where he must have felt dominant and in control.

Consumer market is - gaming, mixed reality, augmented reality and full blown metaverse the likes of which FB is planning
This going to a concert virtually with your friend from Jaffna. Think watching a match as if you were at the ground with PJ and you holding hands and licking lollipops. Think a school teacher being able to take her entire class to be at the Pyramids or Colosseum without never leaving the classroom. Watching movies could mean you are apart of the story. Think training for engineering and medicine being done virtually so when the real thing comes around you’ve basically done it all virtually. I work in the construction industry and there’s a big push for VR or AR tech so that building designers and engineers can walk through their 3d designs and explore issues. You could do inspections and see what’s behind a wall - like pipes and wiring etc. So many kids are into Roblox and mine craft and other world building games these days. They can build and explore it together with VR with their friends. Even adults can do the same.
In terms of why now.. it’s just classic Moore’s law. Moore’s law basically says that technology capabilities double every couple of years and the cost goes down. The tech has advanced so much and with AI, ML your VR experience is incredible. It will only continue to get better. These have been supplemented by the super fast networking capabilities we all
enjoy now so you can just connect to the cloud for most VR applications.
These technologies are only going to get better and become more mainstream especially with someone like Facebook diving headfirst into it.
LOL I know how these work, but thanks.
Do you believe the rise of 5G network, cloud rendering/processing and the ability for new mobile devices/consoles to handle all these has created this demand ?
Why would a construction company require a 360/VR model of a project ? Doesn't that just not sound like an additional budget to the construction cost ? What's wrong with good old 3D models ? Doesn't this just add extra duration in a construction project ? Based on roughly-loosely talking to my brother, these VR development take time right ? Why would construction company that are mostly hell bent on maximizing profit care about VR all of a sudden ? How does it add value to their business other than being just an an expensive gimmick? I understand nursing school, dental school and etc as my brother is actually involved in a VR project for a dental school in US. He has a software development company, they do small AI, API and VR stuff. Mostly they do these projects as a show-off to impress and land bigger "regular" projects. I don't like to talk about these things with him, he will give me shit for not taking PMP courses like he asked. He had asked me to get certified in PMP and Agile PMP so I can "manage" these projects for him; he said I don't need to be technical. I didn't bother as I had no interest in managing or learning code. Sometimes I over hear him talk and it's like a whole new language lol.

Funny man. Ask a question, then laugh at the answer and say I knew all of that. Weird but that's just you I guess.

To be clear I don't work for a company that builds buildings. I work for a company that provides software for such companies. Our software has a component that uses AR which we sell as part of the software being sold to the clients. So it is us who do the development, not the construction company.
In a mixed reality world, you can compare the progress of the building with the BIM model and inspect the components for visual inspections. You can also link it to the proj schedule to see progress and compare it with the constructed building.
PMP and Agile PMP are good certifications and you certainly don't need to be technical to become PM. I work as a PM (Product Manager) but not a Project Manager. These are 2 different roles these days and the PMP is more geared towards project management. Neither requires you to be technical - unless its a technical PM role, but you should know some basics and add them to your talent stack to be successful in either of these roles.

Wow I really touched a nerve with SW by posting about W2020. Who knew they were so close. I apologise once again.
At this time I am reminded of what our esteemed forummer CA once said. "SW jumped in the middle like a pole stripper" and is now hurt vicariously.
(11-03-2021, 09:55 PM)The One Wrote: [ -> ]This pandemic gave a boost to the AR/VR industry as well.
I know this firsthand; my company makes machines that Intel and other semiconductor manufacturers use, so they're installed at their fabs and operated there. We constantly work with them to keep them operational in day to day work. Whenever there are issues, when we need to do upgrades etc., we'd go in and do the work. And if the local help isn't capable of handling it (our mother company is in Japan), we'd often fly in an expert. This used to be something expensive for us both money and time wise; getting someone here takes 24-36 hours when needed, and then all things considered it meant 4-5 days minimum work and usually 3-4K+ expenses per incident.
We had requested before the pandemic that we use some remote troubleshooting etc. but Intel was always reluctant. But after the pandemic hit, travel was severely restricted and we had to resort to remote support. So we bought a bunch of Microsoft Hololenses, and tried it out. Basically it's an AR headset, where one person wearing it would go into the fab, and the experts at the other end could see what they see, then guide them through troubleshooting. You can send documents/diagrams etc through it, and it would pop up in their vision, and they can screenshot what they see and send us etc. It's really cool and really useful.
So now we constantly use them and has been working great for us. I know that tons of other companies adopted this, and I can say pretty confidently that this is going to be the way even after this pandemic is over. It's much cheaper (one headset is only 2500 USD), so basically less than the cost of one trip, but can be used over and over again. I can see this expanding to something like holograms eventually, the stuff we see in movies, but for now I can see the headsets getting smaller and becoming more and more user friendly. It's a level about video support like Zoom.
LOL I Knew all of that - because you told me before - but thanks.
