Asalana is the easy choice, but knowing SLC, these guys are gonna do what they are gonna do.

They will have Chandi or Dimuth

Why rush Asalanka? Let him settle down first; perhaps a VC position would be good at this stage.

By the looks of it SL needs a long time captain, most likely the one that can secure his spot across all 3 formats, Asalanka is the best player for that as he is young, skilled and can play all 3 formats. Dimuth and Chandi are 33 and 32. Chandi hasn't even secured his spot in LOI until recently, Dimuth is a test cricketer, he can play ODI, but then again you need a T20 captain. Asalanka has captaincy experience, he is good, pretty much secured his spot for a long time, can play all 3 format so might as well groom for years to come rather than do this musical chairs for every couple of years.

Same arguments that were put forward when they made Chandimal captain. Let him settle in the side for couple of years.

Chandimal was always erratic, it looked good when he was performing, but streakishly he would go on strings of single digit scores. He also played tons of high risk shots. Asalanka is pretty mature and smart for his age. Who would you choose as a captain ?
