Nice all set for the decider.

Mind you we lost the last home series to Zimbos 2-3 even with the likes of Mathews, Malinga and Kulasekara in 2017.

From the bowling perspective, only Hasaranga is missing from a 1st line lineup, right?

I think, it is time that we think of having Asalanka as white ball captain, even though the best bet would be KM.  Now that he is selected, why not giving him the captaincy as well.
I am shocked to see after a one series of LPL, all Durham boys are allowed to play international cricket?  Wow, nice way to maintain discipline!  "Oho ma yang, SLC".

Zimbabwe batted very well.We didnt bowl all that well and Shanaka was poor with captaincy. He removed Vandersay after just 4 overs for 12 and 2 wickets and put Kamindu Mendis who got hammered. He also didnt let vandy and Chameera finish their overs.Chamika bowled only 6

Thanks Dilz for that summary. Yes, Shanaka has been under bowling Chamika even during the T20 WC. What you pointed out with Vandy being removed when he was on a roll, has been one of the main problems with his captaincy.

If a captain is giving away this many runs to an ordinary team in home conditions, that person is not a suitable on-field leader, in my opinion. Yes, I have supported him before the T20 WC, but since I started to notice the type of things that you have correctly pointed out, I have changed my mind about Dasun's captaincy. I have got flak for my change of mind from some of the forum members.

But, they obviously have not paid attention to the areas that you "expertly" pointed out of Dasun's captaincy.

Thank you so much for that update!
Yikes that some poor captaincy stuff there. I don't see Zimbabwe scoring another 260+.
Our bowling in this series has been poor, unexplainable bowling changes haven't helped either. Our strong point has been to get wickets and/or keep the runs down in the middle overs which we have been unable to do in recent times. We need wicket taking bowlers, I don't see Theekshana as a wicket taking bowler in ODI's. He has been economical going under 5 rpo but hasn't been penetrative. Still not convinced with Vandersay though he has got 5 wickets in the series, so inconsistent, you never know what he will come up with. He bowled well in his first spell yesterday, 4 overs for 12 runs and 2 wickets but went for 39 in the next 5 overs. I can't understand why Shanaka didn't give couple more overs when Vandersay was on a roll. Both Chameera and Vandersay didn't complete their full quota of overs and Chamika who was economical bowled only 6 overs while the part timers went for 34 in their 4 overs.

When it came to the chase, the SR of the top 4 batsmen were poor considering we had to chase over 300, that put extra pressure on others to follow and on top of that losing 4 wickets inside the first 15 overs didn't help either. Good to see Shanaka getting big runs at last, hope he can continue with this form. Useful partnerships with Kamindu and Chamika but the required rate was going up all the time and they had to take too many risks at the end.

The pitches at Pallekele has been flat as I ever seen them, nothing for the bowlers but scoreboard pressure mounts as soon as a team crosses the 300 mark. We need to keep Zimbabwe under 280, they are no push over with quite a few experienced batsmen in their side. Someone had said Zimbabwe haven't played many matches but actually they have as many ODI's as BD and India and more ODI's than NZ, Pakistan and AFG since the beginning of 2020 and remember we lost to them last time at home with a much stronger team.
Looking at how the bowling is going I get the feeling that it might be series the selectors/coaching staff are looking at in a exploratative manner. So many bowlers being used, so many changes etc suggests maybe they are giving everyone a go to see where they land to work out who the key bowlers are going to be moving forward.

This kind of sucks because under Arthur we seemed to be pretty much on track to working out what those options are and getting ready for the next T20 WC as well.

Eitherway bowling was pretty poor.

Vaddahay is too much of a lottery for me.

Theekshana while economical is kind of useless if he isn't picking up wickets.

They are desperate for a partner for Wownidu from what I can see.

We are leaking wayyy too many runs in the middle overs. The Zimbos were totally free flowing and scoring on both sides of the wicket. No one was bowling to the field. It's pretty disappointing to be honest.

Shanaka also seemed to stick to some plan and didn't think on his feet too much. This is a problem he has had all along. And it's slowly becoming a real issue on the field. This is where coaching staff etc need to guide him. In this lull we are in with the coaching issues I don't see it being fixed any time soon. Another sucky point cuz Shana and Arthur built up a good relationship over the last year and a bit..
In any case, I think SL probably underestimated Zimbabwe as well, yea they are no where near their best but their middle order is pretty solid with Ervine , Williams and Raza in there.

Their bowling has always been the weak link but once you have 300+ on the board vs a side like SL they are in the driving seat once they get in our middle order.

Only hate losing to Bangla, this I can take

Ervine Williams and Raza are gun players too. Dont understand why no one seem to remember them even though we play them ever few years. That Zimbabwean cohort all came from an u19 team which beat Australia. These guys are properly talented

You don't have to be necessarily rich to get favours, you just might need the right connections. I guess with Kapugedera, he was backed by quite a few famous past players and even Sanga and Mahela thought he had potential but he never lived up their expectations.
