The series is called "A song of ICE and FIRE". Game of Thrones is just the first book.

So you can interpret what that means. FIRE and ICE.

In each seasons the Dragons are growing. They are just babies in s1. I think they hatch at the end of S1 don't they. They are much bigger now.

White Walker story line is slowly developing. No one really know wtf they are going to do yet.

Stuff beyond the wall advance greatly by end of S5. It's pretty fkn cool actually.

I mean this is essentially a medival political drama with magic. Magic is not the main thing. At least not yet. But its important to the story line and will probably be a huge thing in the climax of the story. For a TV show its insanely huge.

Imagine of LOTR was made into a series, you are not going to see magic in every ep. If you read the books you know there is so much more going on which  was compressed to 3 , 3 hr movies by Peter Jackson. Of which most of them build up and climax in huge battle sequances

In a lot of ways the movies do not do justice to the incredible depth of what Tolkien wrote. But overall everyone loved it cuz the soul of Tolkiens story was generally retained.

GoT has the benefit of growing their characters and showing why someone does what they do.
