Photography/Videography/Painting/Drawing Thread - mugatiya - 10-10-2018

All things photography and videography related. Post cool photos, ask questions, technical stuff, tips, editing info etc. I've no clue about videography but included it anyway.

Does anyone here own a drone. I've thought about it but looking at pics like this really want to make me get one, especially for travel.

What make/model is it ? I think I now remember you mentioning in the ADMINS SUPER EXCLUSIVE FB GROUP.

I've got the Phantom 4 Pro, which is pretty neat.

I think they've released a newer model since I bought it, called Phantom 4 Pro VII or something. Haven't looked it up much so don't know what new stuff this has.

There's a another P4 Advanced, which is a little cheaper than the PRO, difference being it lacking some sensors (at the rear, so flying backwards can be less safe, but in all honesty not a big problem) and few other things. But the camera is the same on both.

If you're looking for a little cheaper option I think Mavic series is also great.

My main reason to cough up the extra bucks was Phantom 4 series has a better camera and I wanted that for my photo stuff.
But if you're not super concerned, I think Mavici is also a great option.

I don't know much about other brands tho. DJI really is a cut above the rest I think, remember I figured it out when I did research before buying.

Yup the one where we talk about Randy's future and stuff.

Yea this guy took his pics on a Phantom too. From the little research I've done that seems to be the best one

Is it bulky to carry around when traveling? Like is it annoying to have with you ? Need to take special care or something?

Camera is inbuilt? How long is the flight time? And how much did you end up paying for it?

Also, if/when you make a decision another thing to consider is batteries. You definitely need more than one, at least 2 maybe 3. The drone only comes with one so you want to pay extra for extra batteries. One battery flight time is about 25-30 mins depending on the model, but also it's advised to start bringing the drone back when you're down to 30% (which is a wise suggestion, I found out the hard way and almost crashed the drone once), so you're realistically looking at about 18-20 minutes of flight time with one battery. Which goes by super fast.

And if you're serious about photos, getting a tablet is a good investment. Phones are just too small to see well enough. You can get their remote with the display, but really why would you when you can more or less spend the same amount of extra cash and get a tablet.

Have an iPad so I am sorted there I guess..

What's the model you got exactly? It seems to take me to Pro 4 v2 or something when I go to your link

Well, so the Phantos series isn't bulky, but still takes up some space. You really need a specialized backpack for it. You can buy their own, but I purposely didn't get it because you're advertising that you're carrying a drone and people might want to steal it. There are other drone bags that designed for each model. So when you have the drone + 2 batteries + tablet + charger + remote, it's not like carrying a cellphone. If you're hiking and stuff you won't be able to carry much else.
In that case if you're concerned with that, Mavic is probably the way to go for you since it's compact. Still you will have to have extra betteries charger etc. But it def is lighter and compact.

Yeah camera is inbuilt. I htink I answered flight time questions before.

I personally got the Drone + 2 batteries + a backpack, so it would have come up to about 2K, but we have Black Friday sales here when almost all electronic stuff goes on sale, and I got it around that time so I think I got some discounts. If you want to buy maybe holiday season coming up could be a good time.

I have Phantom 4 PRO.

The 4 Pro V2.0 is the newer model, and seems they haven't done big changes only minor changes.
