Brazil is one notch ahead than other teams, because they have good cover in Neymar's absence. France - MBappe Brazil - Neymar, but they have other forwards like that Richarlison and Vini Jr. who could step-in as strikers for Neymar's absence. Argentina - Messi Portugal - Ronaldo Netherlands - Gakpo Ecuador - Valencia US - Pulisic Look at what happened to Ecuador after Valencia's injury. Same could happen to US if Pulisic did not play again in this WC. Without MBappe (if he gets injured by any chance), France will be just an ordinary team too. Even with many of their players injured, France is still lethal because of MBappe. Is Neymar that sensitive to hitting? I am sure other top players like Messi, MBappe, Vini Jr, and Ronaldo must be getting targeted too, but do they get injured like Neymar? I remember in a previous WC (was it the one held in Brazil?), Neymar got injured as a result of opposing players targeting him and Brazil went down after they lost Neymar due to injury. While you have superstars and stars in most teams, football is very much a team sport. One man cannot change much apart from a spark of magic like Messi. Ronaldo also doesn't have those magic moments anymore because he is old and slow. And as football has evolved other teams know how to snuff out those magic moments better through defensive tactics. None of those players can score if there is no service. And if the tactics and defence are weak it doesn't matter how strong your front line is. France already had a string of injuries coming in. Benzema anyone? France would have been lethal with those 2 together. France is definitely not an ordinary side even with Mbappe out if they had the rest of the full first XI fit including Benzema. Most of the big players will get marked by the opposition. So they will have a more physical game to deal with than others. People like Messi know how to handle themselves. It's been a part of these players playing life forever at the club and international levels. I dunno if Neymar is more prone to injuries or not but he loves a dive or 2 RE: Qatar 2022 (FIFA World Cup) - Bada - 11-30-2022 Strikers in football are a useless species without players like Pirlo.
