im no an expert but the state will not recognize this as a legally binding civil relationship
so the whole movement is to get recognition for gay marriage as a civil union
from what i understand.
u can easily have a private function and have a wedding but its wont be recognised anywhere as a marriage.

So if the church doesn't want to perform gay marriages, that would be extremely bigoted, but then again the religion itself is against gays so what are you gonna do? There should be no question that gay marriage should be legal, but if the church doesn't want to perform it you can't complain.
