A four-team invitational domestic T20 tournament will replace the postponed Lanka Premier League (LPL) as part of Sri Lanka’s preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022.
The third edition of the LPL was to start from August 1 but has since been postponed to December on the request of the tournament rights holder on the basis that the prevailing economic crisis in Sri Lanka was not conducive to conduct the tournament.
The invitational tournament will begin on August 9 with two matches each day – one day game and the other at night – and each team guaranteed at least three games, before the final scheduled for August 16.
“The national selectors will pick the top 60 players from across the national squads, but among them will also be players who have performed well during the 50-over club tournament who are not a part of those squads. This will be an ideal opportunity for those players as well, to blossom,” Tournament Committee Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Samantha Dodanwela said.
The Major Club three-day tournament will follow immediately after the invitational tournament, and run until mid-November, before the start of the LPL.

Sana has accepted his political mistake. I do not say anything much wrong with his recent tweets and position. He has been with the people.
In cricket Sana is my Hero. Nothing can take away from that

Sri Lanka Cricket has reportedly refused to bear the surgery cost of Kusal Janith Perera’s shoulder injury.
Kusal Janith Perera is scheduled to undergo a surgery to his shoulder in UK and had requested Sri Lanka Cricket to bear the cost, which is not covered by the insurer.
However, Sri Lanka Cricket has turned down the request, further delaying the surgery.
“The opener appealed to his employer to consider meeting the full cost, only to be met with a blunt refusal. SLC also did not offer an alternative. This means Perera could miss out on this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. He is now expected to meet SLC Chairman Shammi Silva to ask him to reconsider” The Sunday Times reported today.
Kusal Janith Perera injured his shoulder playing for Sri Lanka last year. SLC has reportedly refused to bear the cost on the basis that Perera played in the Lanka Premier League 2021 despite injury concerns.
Perera has however informed that he had only played the tournament with permission from Sri Lankan Cricket.

Unsure to who is at fault. Did SLC explicitly warn him or tell KJP not to play

KJP has said he played with permission from SLC. Whatever that is SLC should take care of it's players. He injured his shoulder while playing for the national team.
