1995-2015 success down to extraordinary cricketers, not the system – Samaraweera
Former Sri Lanka middle-order batsman Tilan Samaraweera believes that the country’s success from 1995 to 2015 was down to some ‘extraordinary cricketers’ and not the system.
“We have to forget about 1995-2015,” Samaraweera told Daily Mirror when asked about Sri Lanka cricket’s staggering slump in the last seven years.
“From 1995 to 2015 what happened was, our cricket was anchored by highly talented cricketers. Sri Lanka were fortunate to have cricketers of that quality. For instance; Sanath Jayasuriya – extraordinary, Lasith Malinga – a unique bowler, Muralitharan – again a unique bowler, Ajantha Mendis – a mystery spinner. What happened was our cricket survived thanks to these kinds of extraordinary cricketers. We have also seen how school cricket has lost its quality. Clubs are also responsible for this. We don’t have a proper preseason. When I came to Victoria and during my time in Worcestershire only I realized what preseason is. I mean, preseason is not when you run 100m ten times or play in the nets with someone bowling. If you look at these countries, preseason is central to everything they do. They have every little detail about players within the preseason. Further, if a batsman plays for a club with a certain number of shots, come the next season they will have one or two more in their bag. So, players develop to that top level in no time. There is no point changing coaches from time to time, all they have to do is change the structure,” Samaraweera, who is based in Australia at present coaching a premier club and Victorian Under-19’s, said.

Good to see SLC taking immediate action, hope it will not change when they get back.
SLC media release:
Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform that Vice-Captain Kusal Mendis, Wicket Keeper – Batsman Niroshan Dickwella, and Batsman Danushka Gunathilaka will be flown back to Sri Lanka, with immediate effect.
This decision was taken following a preliminary inquiry conducted over a Video posted on Social Media in which the said three players can be seen outside their designated hotel.
The decision to recall the players was taken by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, based on the ‘Manager’s Report’ on the matter.
The three players will be suspended, from all forms of cricket, until the completion of the inquiry.

A warning is too lenient, must be banned for at least 6 months.

“Familiar faces in Durham tonight, enjoying their tour! Obviously not here to play cricket, this video was taken at 23.28 Sunday. Disappointing performance by these cricket players but not forgetting to enjoy their night at Durham,” a Sri Lankan cricket fan commented, posting the video on Facebook.
“Many Sri Lankan fans are excited to support the Sri Lankan team on Tuesday at Durham and have made plans to travel across England to watch the game. But unfortunately these clowns are NOT here to serve the Sri Lanka cricket and the fans,” the Sri Lankan fan further said.
LOL, I'm more interested in knowing what they were eagerly interested in. They look concerned lol.

This means they have to isolate for 14 days before boarding on to the flight no ? because they breached the bubble?

What the hell is wrong with these guys, esp Gunatilleke who seems unable to rein in his impulsive and reckless behaviour.
They don’t understand how privileged they are. Really ashamed of this team.

Dickwella's previous offences weren't as bad as what the other two did, but he should have been suspended earlier even for a few matches. Other 2 idiots should have been banned for at least 6 months some time ago. SLC encouraged this kind of behaviour by not punishing.
