Yes, Rashid Khan's extra speed may be helping him, however Ajantha Mendis with his slow runup had speed too. But, did that help for Ajantha?

Yeah fine margins though. Rashid just spins it enough too. That's very important for your variations to work. Mendis barely spun it other than the odd occasions. So once you figure out which way it's heading you are safe.
And he relied on the mystery solely. The art of setting up wasn't something he was good at. That's where control and stock delivery comes in.

Pandya brothers are vegetarians and they can hit a long way. Ajay Jadeja, Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma are also vegetarians. The amount of protein that is required to generate strength/power is overestimated even in the fitness industry. Most of the guys who can hit decent sixes have natural power that is not determined by their diet.

Mendis's downfall was not believing in a stock ball. From what I heard he was advised by many to find one and stick to it but he thought he's got enough variation and keep fooling batsman. That just doesn't work.

His speed helped when people couldn't read him for a short period, but Mendis openly said he didn't need a stock ball lol. His off break turned a little. He could have focused on that. Rashid gets good enough turn at pace. He's like a weirdo in a league of his own.
Still remember good old the days when people thought Mendis would be the next Murali haha

He also became a lot more inaccurate from what I can remember, he was dropping at least 2 balls short every over.

Yeah, he bowled absolute garbage in some spells when bats attacked.
