Must be preparing for LPL playoffs there. They move to Hambantota for 4 matches after maintaining the bio bubble in Colombo for days. Why not finish it at RPS?

Well MR has to make a point that his ground was built for a reason

It's a silly health risk. Different groundstaff and hotel accommodation. All that for 4 matches after playing so many in Colombo.

LMAOO SL cricket fans have never had issues in the stands. The only time it ever happened was when someone called Yuvraj a waterboy and that was nothing. Then I remember like the 1s ever series(after 2011 WC) that was held in Hambantota and a brawl broke out in the stands, guys were swinging hard at each other and destroyed like 15 seats lmaooo.
During a WC match 2011, there were two elephants outside the stadium behind a barbed wire fence, the camera was recording it.

Just remember that this stadium was originally supposed to have 2 more bigger stands. There is also a billion dollar port that no one really uses, a conventional hall and an airport that no one flies into. At least he could have placed them all in a near each other but no, they all had to be like 30 km of each other. Who could forget the Common Wealth bid going of against Gold Coast ? Oh and the Mihin Airlines ?
Compared to the previous reign, this is actually pretty modest of the Rajapakse gang. We all know that these things were built in order to loot money of these projects. The Hambantota stadium deteriorated very quickly. You could see the steal rods connecting the grand stand to the top-cover was rusting 2-3 years after the construction. Also why would you do all this to an area where you are sure to sweep through in the election ? Aren't you supposed to build them in the areas where you are least popular ?

Ground was built by SLC. There was a huge loan. Almost went bankrupt.

While renovations to Kettarama and Pallekele stadiums were deemed necessary, the construction of a brand new stadium in a deserted land in Sooriyawewa, Hambantota, was met with heavy criticism–not only because of the towering cost but also due to logistical reasons including insufficient transport and accomodation.
But with their bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in mind, the former Government led by Mahinda Rajapaksa forced the SLC hierarchy to put up the stadium, promising that it will foot the bill for any balance remaining. SLC allocated a sum of Rs 3.3bn rupees: Rs 1.3 billion for Kettarama and Rs 1 billion each for Pallekele and Sooriyawewa. It later decided to pay an additional Rs 200 million towards the Sooriyawewa project.
According to documents in the Sunday Times’ possession, the project was carried out by CHEC as a variation order to the Hambantota Port Development Project. SLC has maintained that it “did not have any intention to construct an international cricket stadium in Sooriyawewa” –a land largely populated by wild animals–but decided to honour a request made by the former leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa, leaving SLC in dire financial straits.

Stroking MR's ego can't be matched by all the hassle it made.
It was worth it.
