RE: Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh 2024 - pj57 - 03-29-2024

There are rumors/speculation floating around, Kamindu will bat at #3 and Kusal Mendis has been given the last chance to perform with the bat, could be at #4. If he doesn't perform, he could be dropped from the tour of England and either Chandimal or Sadeera will be the main keeper. These are rumors/speculation at the moment, let's wait and see what actually happens. Anyway, it is high time Kusal is given an ultimatum.

Yes. He asked for it. Looking from a long term perspective I would like Nuwanindu in the squad. That means Chandimal may need to get the gloves. He likely won't like it. He will need to keep well and score runs too to keep his place. He is a decent wk, but, I have concerns

His primary function is to score runs in the most important position in the batting lineup which he has failed to do over a period of time. Time to give him a break, too risky to continue with him in that position.

He can play at 7?

SL have won the toss and opted to bat first, no surprise that. Just one forced change for SL. Asitha F'do replacing injured Rajitha. Surprisingly, going with 3 fast bowlers though the pitch seem to be quite different to the one in the first test. DdS said, it looked good for batting, hope we can post a total that could take the match away from BD. BD going with two fast bowlers and three spinners.

Sri Lanka XI: Dimuth Karunaratne, Nishan Madushka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva ©, Kamindu Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya, Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando

No change to the batting order, at least on paper. This might be last chance Kusal Mendis gets to bat at #3 though.

Madushka, so suspect outside the off stump, Joy dropped a sitter early on. Played couple of nice drives in between. Not sure how he will cope with the moving ball in England. Anyway, a decent start, putting on 50 for the first wicket unlike in the first test where we had lost half the side by the 17th over.

These guys offer a run out chance here and there by taking these risky singles. Something I have observed over a period of time. Must be a special SL thing in Test cricket. Can understand the desperation to get off the strike if a certain bowler is tormenting you. That's not the case here.

Could also be a ploy to rotate the strike in a right-left had partnership to put bowlers off bowling the same line/length. That said, I agree some of the singles have been too risky. Dimuth could have been run out couple of times if the throws were accurate.
