I'm waiting to see how this pans out.
But is it a bit too soon? How many FC matches have they played day/night? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A poll was conducted at the end of both seasons. I've posted those results here before check the first few pages Quote:But those who tell you the introduction of a pink ball will radically overturn almost 140 years of Test cricket history and tradition can take some reassurance from the data collected by Cricket Australia in trials of day-night matches during last summer’s Bupa Sheffield Shield season. 06-30-2015, 11:36 PM

In the first place you should have asked why red ball in whites not the white ball in tests I think SP's point is definitely valid. And I agree. If we had to switch to colored clothing to to use a white ball in ODI cricket it makes sense to try and play with colored clothing of some form to use the tried and tested white ball in long format But I think the white ball had issues with longevitiy which is why they had to try a new ball all together. Red would not have worked in the night due to the trail or comet effect. I think if they improved the white ball and tried with some other colored clothing it might have worked the same. But I guess wearing white is more important to retain the test cricket authenticity than changing the ball color. Its a bit stupid really. 07-01-2015, 12:42 AM

I have my doubts about day/night tests but I don't mind giving it a try. My main concern is about how the pink ball will behave and how the evening dew will effect the cricket. That said, lets give it a try.

By all accounts it does not behave too differently to the red ball. Look at the stats I posted its pretty much the same The issue is visibility. Hopefully they;ve got that right. I also read that crowds found it hard to pick up in the night. Which would be funny given that this is an attempt to get more crowds into grounds after hours. Anyway let's see. It might be a flop. But we won't know if we don't try. |
