Smith's ODI performance is better than I thought. It's just that he hasn't played like 250 matches to record a big number of hundreds. Looks like he skipped a lot of bilateral series.

Given where the convo is going maybe we should establish The SW list separately.
And continue the other debates. I’ll put a thread together 03-08-2023, 05:43 AM
Don't worry about The SW. Not a lot of players would make it anyway. Continue the regular discussion.

It gets very confusing when we combine formats. Maybe keep it simple - Jayasuriya is an ODI great. Sangakkara is a Test great.
Anyway, to answer the opening post: great, very good and good are my global categories. Then you make a long list of those players in the "Great" category, pick the top 25-30 or whatever the number you look for and call them the greatest players of all time. 03-08-2023, 01:20 PM

He is definitely an ATG in my book. 03-08-2023, 02:50 PM

I was talking about The Special Wankers club there, which is on a different level. 03-08-2023, 05:03 PM

Warne is not in the all timer list? How come? Stats might not show it, but he was influential in every World Cup he played. Has dragged Australia back from numerous tricky situations. He has been great in each format he played.
Even that last VB series finals he played just before the 2003 World Cup ban, he opened the gates for Australia to win that. Lee came in the end finished it off I reckon He's a great in every format he played in my book.
I didn't see the light until I was already a man and by then it was nothing to me but blinding.

My 6-man list there is just an example of the quality expected to make it to The Special Wankers. You can add players to it.
Is Steyn considered as one of the greats in ODI cricket? |
