SLC has been like this since 1996. The only difference in 2022/2023 is this minister called for a report from the auditor general and supported the petition to change the constitution. The previous ministers apart from Harin Fernando turned a blind eye or got paid to do so. There's so much money in SLC because the revenue is in USD.

Well then who is supposed to monitor their performance (regular performance reviews) with respect to progress and KPIs just like in any other job? I don’t mean fire them, I mean hold them accountable. Don’t tell me that they are answerable to no-one. The auditor general must certainly take action wrt financial mismanagement. 10-18-2023, 04:37 AM

Whenever he tries to take action, SLC runs to the court and ICC. In reality, they are answerable only to ICC and it's not like any other job. How do you think they have been getting away with this shit for more than 2 decades? Go back a few years, the minister could actually sack them and appoint people like Sidath to run an interim committee. Even that is difficult with ICC now. Which leaves us with the only option - auditor general > lawsuit > prosecution. This is why a proper constitution is needed, so you could remove people if they are not working towards the goals. 10-18-2023, 04:45 AM
What's going to happen if Cricket AUS decides to skip conducting Sheffield Shield for a year? They will be kicked out of office. SL cricket needs a constitution like that. Their only duty at the moment is to play the club tournament and fund them. That is good enough to get the votes. They conduct the provincial tournament from time to time when media and followers complain. It's a joke.

^ I saw that you were posting this on the SLC twitter account.
Good stuff, hopefully you keep exposing the thieves for more people to see. 10-18-2023, 07:30 AM
I hardly Tweet. Posted because that's a classic from 21 years ago. A lot of people already know that SLC has been a mess for a long time. Voting system, constitution, domestic structure, etc. It's action from higher up that we need.
This guy has been going on about it for a long time https://www.independent.lk/sri-lanka-cricket-crazy-vote-base-sidath-wettimuny-calls-change-slc-constitution-arjuna-says-bookies-can-no-gain/ Quote:The retired star cricketer – who made a century in 175 balls in his first appearance at Lords – said that it was only Sri Lanka Cricket who had “this crazy vote base”. He cited that Sri Lanka Cricket is controlled by 146 or 147 votes from the different clubs. However he said that whilst Sri Lanka has 146 votes for a population of 21 million India with 1.2 Billion people had just 46 votes and even that the Indian Supreme Court had asked them to try and make it down to 30. England had just 18 votes, South Africa 8, Australia 7 and even in Pakistan with its own share of troubles had just 10. Mr. Wettimuny who is a legendary gentleman fondly known as “Lord Sid” insisted that it was only Sri Lanka that had this crazy vote base. 10-18-2023, 07:46 AM

This is not about the people who coach the first XI. There is no quick fix for this. The first step is admitting that the current system is not working, instead of going "See, we have the talent" when they win a series here and there. I predicted this fall in 2014 when everyone else was partying. Just couldn't see this "someone will step up" people talked about happening for real with the players and the structure (if you can call it a structure LOL) SL had. Fault also lies in SL public who are very accommodating & have don't care attitude towards their cricket & cricketers. In India, the people would have created a ruckus, burnt effigies of all these players & administrators/politicians & would have brought corrupt administration down. How long will this work, SL had to play qualifiers for this World Cup, if this continues just like the West Indies had to miss Champions Trophy 2017 & the current World Cup, Sri Lanka will also find themselves missing on major trophies in the future. Also with Associate nations giving such performances, SL will be left far behind & a new team might replace them. Before all this happens, SLC should get their house in order & plan for the future. A two year plan for CT 2025 just like England did after WC 2015 will be a right way forward. 10-18-2023, 08:35 AM
