But how do you know it wouldn’t have been the same if they batted first? The ball was moving in the 1st innings too.

Let’s first admit it was a great spell upfront. It was remarkable how they got the ball to straighten from such a wide angle. I’d say Kusal and Pathum got unplayable deliveries. Dim shouldn’t have tried to flick the first ball after seeing the first over. Sadeera played poorly.

I think the instructions should’ve been to play first overs cautiously and defend. Maybe there is lack of preparation in terms of playing deliveries that swing so much? Our application was poor.

We probably played the best XI possible. Calling for the heads of selection committee is stupid. There is no one better equipped to play swing than our top three test batters.

Asalanka, sadeera etc should work on their technique. Other than that not sure if we have other leanings.

Yea it's mostly cuz they cannot handle the heat in these scenarios. It does feel like we are on the wrong side of some of these spells in a high percentage but its nothing new perse. Here is Pakistan who were rolled for 50 in both innings of a single test in the space of a few days

There is definitely a lack of skill in playing the moving ball (also not an SL only problem) but if you see how KM shaped up to those hooping balls, he was totally playing the wrong line and playing to the leg side when he should be straight batting that stuff..

We are chasing 350 and under pressure so I guess he is looking to score but there is definitely a big lack of skill in weathering these kinds of storms.

Sadeera fell to pressure..he is not thaaat loose usually. I think he was just nervous..looked it for sure.

Dimma missed a moving ball on the pads..poor

Pathum got a good nut - whatyagonna do.

Let's be honest and say this Indian bowling unit is
1) the best in LOI at the moment (deadly when something is on offer)
2) have the wood on our team, they are our bogey team and this team is now scarred badly.
3) were in full song last night again

We just looked very amateurish against this level of quality.. I suspect batters from Aus/SA/Eng might handle it slightly better.

It does suck that we are at the receiving end of these days but just gotta go back to drawing board.

I am just very interested to know what we will do after this campaign is over. Feels almost like SL needs time to reset and figure out XI's for each format and plan for a 3 year in-depth cycle.

Honestly though, even as I type this I'm depressed because I know long-term planning is something we don't do.

As I said alarm bells need to be ringing very loudly at the highest levels at SLC. This cannot be allowed to continue..

If you saw it this as magnificent as any opening pace spells in limited overs. Absolutely freaking unbelievable and gorgeous bowling. Be in awe.

India is lucky they have the money to have these programmes in place but nothing is ever an overnight success..these are decades in the making.

These systems create finished players when they hit the international level. Which is why their bench strength is so good and you have situations like their B side winning a test series in Aus and why there is another production line of batters/quicks waitingin the wings.

SLC simply does not have the foresight to formulate a plan like this and execute it over 5+ years.
