Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), as the owner of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), together with The IPG Group, the event rights holder of the LPL, wishes to officially announce that the franchise partnerships of the Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings have been terminated.
The IPG Group has formally communicated to SLC that the terminations have been effected due to the respective franchises’ failure to fulfill their contractual obligations as stipulated under the agreements entered into at the commencement of their participation in the league. Consequent to the above, the forthcoming edition of the Lanka Premier League will feature franchises representing Colombo and Jaffna under new ownership. As the event rights holder, the IPG Group retains the exclusive rights over the LPL franchise teams and, accordingly, is vested with the authority to transfer and/or assign the ownership rights of the said franchises to interested parties. Sri Lanka Cricket and The IPG Group remain committed to upholding the integrity, standards, and success of the Lanka Premier League and look forward to an exciting upcoming season with renewed participation. https://www.newswire.lk/2025/04/29/lpl-two-franchises-including-lycas-jaffna-kings-terminated/ 04-29-2025, 10:23 PM

My guess is they were making these movies to launder some money from their dying company to their personal accounts. Whats app and Viber has killed them. I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't pay some sort of fees. Regardless, why can't these morons tell us what these "contractual obligations" were ? Softlogic is a very reputable IT company. My brother did some freelance work for them back in the day. They also part owns Movenpick hotel in Colombo. I just don't see Softlogic not paying some bills lol. @Dilz What's the rumour ? 05-11-2025, 04:41 AM
Man just wish if SLC wasn't a joke and they weren't running a farcical league, we could've capitalised on the postponement of ipl and psl. Could've made a lot of money and got some great players to play at least for this year.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Prem Thakkar, the Indian owner of the Galle Marvels franchise in the Lanka T10 League, has been sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for 10 years, after pleading guilty to a match-fixing charge under Sri Lanka’s Prevention of Offences Related to Sports Act. Thakkar was also fined Rs. 6 million and ordered to pay Rs. 1 million in compensation. In addition, the Kandy High Court has granted a request by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit to download and examine data from Thakkar’s mobile phone as part of ongoing investigations. Thakkar is now free to leave the country after settling the fine and compensation payments. The Attorney General filed the indictment earlier this year, accusing Thakkar of attempting to corrupt West Indies cricketer Andre Fletcher by offering him incentives to influence the outcome of a game involving Galle Marvels during the Lanka T10 League in December 2024. |
