I don't understand this "no footwork argument". It is this lack of footwork that makes him the player he is. Everyone says Virender Sehwag has lack of footwork, but it is this lack of footwork which gives him the power and strong base to hit big shots. If Virender Sehwag had perfect footwork he would not be the same special player he is, and he would be another ordinary player. Likewise it is this lack of footwork that gives Avishka the strong base to hit the shots he does, so he doesn't have to do major technical adjustments, just work hard and try to improve on his innings building skills. Sehwag compromised his footwork for more power, while Dravid has great foot work but not much power. However they both can score runs, that is what matters at the end of the day.
Yes, I think footwork should not be a big deal as long as he adapt when teams starts attacking his weakness. Teams now have very little intel on him. When their scouts start video analyzing, they will attack his weakness and he must learn to adapt. The issue is that it may take him some time before he starts working on weakness, he will struggle and you just hope the selectors don't drop him. You also have to hope that he doesn't lose confidence. Shehwag had "don't care" attitude, he doesn't fear anyone, when DRS came along, he'd take review without consulting the non striker. Would Avishka have that type of confidence ? How would he handle real world pressure ? Guys commenting on his instagram telling him to focus on batting instead of posting pictures ? Guys making memes out of him? It is easier for us to criticize, lets see how this 21 year old handles all these.
