We have ben OK in tests, not good but OK, better than in the shorter formats for sure. We have some way to go if we are to drop down to the standard when Zimbabwe was suspended.

We have some way to go if we are to drop down to the standard when Zimbabwe was suspended. With the provincial structure in place hopefully we will start producing better players in 3-4 years time. This was the root cause of the problem and it's been dealt with now. Let's hope it stays in place after NR leaves office. 07-16-2021, 06:51 PM
Our group - A is tougher than Bangla's group - B. Yes, it is T20 format, however Ireland is currently playing well against SA in a ODI series. Then, Didn't Netherlands beat Ireland recently too? So, we cannot take this one easy facing Ireland and Netherlands. On the other hand, in Group - B, Bangladesh only has teams like Scotland to deal with, other two teams are way below their level. So, compared to us, Bangla's entry into the Super-12 is guaranteed!
Without playing foul, our selectors better plan well and discover few new faces to accompany KJP for this WC qualifiers. This Indian series and any subsequent series that we play before this tournament ,must be wisely used to come up with a squad of about 20 players. DDS, Dickwella and Asalanka are not T20 players, and if we played them in the final XI, we will go nowhere. I watched against a video of the 2nd T20 match in England. When you watch these matches repeatedly, you could pick up lot of stuff that you missed in the live match. Dickwella has no power to hit straight sixers. Even Sanga mentioned that at the commentary box. He hit shots straight with full force only to land in front of long off or long on. This is why he always depends on Dilscoop and paddle sweep shots. It is amazing how our coaches and the selectors are not paying attention to these details. Kusal Mendis in that match edged to the keeper, it was an outside edge. The commentators were saying that usually the batsman feels such an edge and would walk out if the umpire gives it out. But, Mendis burned a review for it. Selecting these players to play for our national team, tells us a lot about the selection panel that we have. Do they really NOT pay attention to these matches? 07-16-2021, 11:13 PM
Our group is a tough one when compared with Group B, any one these teams can win on their day, specially in the t20 format. We have to be at our best in order to qualify.

Group 1 in this year's World Cup is group of death just like in 2016 India's group with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan & Bangladesh was group of death.
Sri Lanka should come 2nd in their qualifying group & play Asia Cup alongside India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan & New Zealand in Group 2. 07-23-2021, 04:21 AM
Sri Lanka will play the opening match of the ICC Cricket T20 World Cup qualifying round against Ireland on 17 October.
The schedule released by the ICC yesterday sees Sri Lanka who are in Group A with Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia play their second and third matches of the qualifying round on 20 October and 22 October against Namibia and Netherlands respectively. Group B comprises Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman. The top two teams from each group will qualify to play in the Super 12s and join the other eight teams that have gained automatic qualification by virtue of their ICC T20I rankings.
