Lot of hit and misses but bit of a fightback from Grandhomme and Southee, put on 41. Anderson gets his 4th bouncing out Southee. 86/8 (31)

Matt Parkinson is the concussion sub for Jack Leach. He can't quite catch a break can he? Pounded with all sorts of injuries and misfortune.
Today tried to chase the ball like Baz and ended up banging his head!
I didn't see the light until I was already a man and by then it was nothing to me but blinding.

Well crazy first day's play to say the least. England started off brilliantly, rectifying some of the issues they've been making on the field. Good lengths, zero no balls and brilliant catching. Bairstow set the tone. It could have gone wrong with the second wicket, but he managed to hold on. If anything Broad could have bowled a bit more fuller. But both of them were mostly on the money and Potts was brilliant from the first ball.
Stokes' fields were also good. Kept looking for wickets and there was a lot of energy. New Zealand as always though fought back. England's opening combo got going and, NZ were a bit unlucky not to get one early. There were some run out chances, plays and misses. But Crawley especially seemed to be settling down. Then like some switch being flicked, the collapse came. Root and Stokes also got out cheaply. Jameison was brilliant to Pope. But Pope almost hung in and then got out. Scores are almost level now at the end of the first day lol Gonna be interesting Day 2. PS- The Shane Warne tributes were great. They are yet to showcase the documentary. So there's more coming!

What a day of test cricket to start the English summer, 17 wickets fell for just 248 runs. Expected NZ to fight back, they have the bowlers to exploit English conditions. Now they have a good opportunity to get a slender first innings lead which could be important in a low scoring match.

Crazy day.
A bit surprised by Pott's seam position. It looks a bit scrambled in general. I guess there was enough in the pitch yesterday to make shot selection a bit tricky. A lot drag on's and some pretty decent bowling. I wouldn't say anyone was bowling banana's out there or anything. Match is a serious position and no idea where it will go from here. 06-03-2022, 06:35 AM

But other than that, on that pitch to lose 17 wickets is just poor batting from both sides. At least for Kiwi's you can say they are under prepped and rusty. On the scrambled seam - apparently that's intentional, he was saying in an interview. With the Dukes, this whole wobble seam is a big thing that players are trying to master it. Anderson and Southee are great at it. It's with the wobble seam that Anderson got this massive in dipper going as well. It's like letting lose a balloon without sealing it lol Jags back in the air and all. Also the funny thing was that the 4th umpire was bringing out Dukes to the ground in a Kookaburra box. LMAO
