Sri Lanka batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who was recently criticized by head coach Mickey Arthur for his fitness and fielding, has hired the services of a personal trainer.

“I train 2 1/2 hours a day at home with my personal trainer (Nigel Aaron) and I am confident of meeting the fitness and skin-fold levels in 30 days,” the 30-year-old left-handed batsman said.

“I am also given a diet plan by the trainer. I don’t eat meat and I will be match-fit soon”.

Later, his trainer, added, “Cricketers not only need to be physically fit but the balance between the physical and mental strength should be maintained”.

“I can bet the players like Rohit Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy or the former players -- Graeme Smith, Shane Watson etc. had skinfolds above 100 but they are/were match winners and are /were in the team”.

“Bhanuka loves carbohydrate food and I have switched him to a strict nutrition plan. Yes, he loves chocolates and now eats dark chocolates without added sugar."

“Bhanuka may have run with the gloves on but I have never seen him being run out or even running out his partner,” the trainer added.

Bhanuka has been vegetarian for years . He probably puts on weight because of carbs .
I've been trying to find what teams around the world use. NZ had the toughest yo-yo test a few years ago, but it wasn't mandatory for selection. Not sure what they use now. AUS used yo-yo at some point, but there's no mention of what they do now. 2km time trial was introduced by IND a few months ago. 8:15 for bowlers and 8:30 for bats. They also have yo-yo, but the standard isn't as high as what NZ had.

"The idea was mooted by Shankar Basu and it has proved to be extremely beneficial. For conducting each and every player's test, the BCCI spends between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 which is a nominal amount," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Earlier, the Indian cricket team used to undergo Skinfold Test for body fat measure percentage and then switched to DEXA test.

"Skinfold test was used primarily for a long time but it was found out that results related to body fat percentage were not accurate enough. Then there was a switch to DEXA test for calculation of body fat percentage.

"The DNA test is being done so that the body's needs are known to maintain a particular fat percentage," the official, who is aware about the module, further added.

As of now, the permissible body fat percentage limit for a senior national team player is 23 percent, which is standard for most of the international cricket teams, including Pakistan and New Zealand.

It is learnt that some of the cricketers did not know why, after rigorous amount of training, they were not able to bring down their fat percentage to a certain level.

"Some of them have been having copious amount of milk since childhood as it is a common belief that milk gives you strength. Then they found out that despite training, their body is not able to measure up to the demands of modern day game.

"When this test started, some players understood that they are lactose intolerant or some who have fetish for mutton biryani know what their body needs after eating a particular kind of food," he added.

One of the players whose strength and stamina has tremendously improved has been pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been consistently playing ODIs and T20 Internationals.

Since the start of Champions Trophy, Bhuvneshwar has played 19 ODIs and and 7 T20 Internationals, purely because of a new fitness routine that was prepared after getting his genetic fitness report.

The DNA test is believed to test the body's abilities and what kind of diet and exercise are most effective for a particular player.

What trainer Basu does is to prepare a detailed workout and nutrition guide for each player that is tailored for their respective physical needs.

Commenting on the recent fitness issues Angelo Mathews had to undergo, De Mel said: “He has done all the tests and the yo-yo he is running at more than 18.1. He is of course one player who has had a lot of injuries in the past so we have to manage him properly. He gets injured while batting when he has bowled. We need Mathews to bowl a few overs that helps our balance in the ODI side. Even in Test matches if he can bowl 5-10 overs it makes a huge difference.”

All these guys mentioned above were highly fit, they just had a fat face, just googled shirtless pics of those players and lol.
