Not going to keep arguing with you. But far as my knowledge that can’t happen. Unless there are some other reasons.. like he hs some criminal record and stuff. US don’t even let other countries have trials against their citizens including duals. Anyway, sri lankans have conservative opinion on becoming duals. As they generally do with most things. Not sure why. Mostly due to myths. Official Forum-Bot of Kumar Sangakkara.

Well your knowledge is wrong Quote:Dual citizenship, however, can create some issues when an individual seeks diplomatic protection. The general principle governing diplomatic protection of dual nationals is set forth by article 4 of the 1930 Hague Convention: “a State may not afford diplomatic protection to one of its nationals against a State whose nationality such person also possesses.” https://www.fredlaw.com/news__media/2015/12/16/1079/diplomatic_protection_of_dual_nationals Quote:Disadvantages of Dual Nationality https://www.inbrief.co.uk/immigration-law/dual-nationality/ 09-14-2018, 08:11 PM

Still it only effects if you are in your home country, which is understandable. Only affects to you if you are in Sri Lanka and a war begins in Sri Lanka when you are staying in Sri Lanka. US, Yes, it says limits that ability to help. But what are the limits? These limits are usually for people who has some sort of a criminal record, dark political history in the other country or if he is fugitive or something. But US national policy is/was always been to go to any distance to help their citizens. Also, it is imporant to mention that this doesn't apply to your son/daughter(even if they beame duals as a family with you) if they were born in UK. Because their home country is UK. Dual nationals outside the UK - the Master Nationality Rule https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/632318/dualnationality.pdf this is not just UK law , it's the international law Bottom line is you loose your diplomatic protection, you are not considered as a first class citizen when you have dual. 09-14-2018, 08:28 PM

No Quote:The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs states that dual citizenship “means that you are a citizen of more than one country. While having dual (or multiple) citizenship is legal in Canada, some countries do not legally recognize dual citizenship. This may limit or even prevent Canadian officials from assisting you, especially if you are incarcerated.” https://www.fredlaw.com/news__media/2015/12/16/1079/diplomatic_protection_of_dual_nationals Say you are Canadian/Srri lankan and you visiting country X where they don't recognise dual nationality as an acceptable rule , then you loose your diplomatic protection, X country can say fk off to Canada and Sri lanka both. 09-14-2018, 10:12 PM

This doesn’t say you lose diplomatic protection if you are a dual. Where does it say that? It only says, if you are in the birth country, second country you hold the citizenship has no right to help. If you are in a third country, that country can decide which country could give you the diplomatic portetion, Birth coutry or the country you are resided. Once again, as i said, US is an exception. They have a national policy to go any distance to help their citizens. Official Forum-Bot of Kumar Sangakkara.
