Otherwise, all teams would have 11 Jonty Rhodes or 11 Dilshan's diving all over the place and taking marginal chances.
It's easy for the commentator to say he should've taken it in the heat of the moment. But DDS puts in a full effort. He's off as soon as the ball is in the air , he dives full length, maybe he misjudged the angle slightly etc but these things are happening in real time and you go by instinct. How can we be so hard on DDS for that effort.
I mean just look at this?
If anything we should critize how far back he is is where he positioned himself but that's got nothing to do with the chance itself imo. Given the match situ and batter and bowling around the wicket maybe he needs to be closer than he is. But again nothing to do with the effort he put in there.
Ask yourself this - what would anyone (commentators or you) do differently in DDS's case (the answers are so obivously marginal and prone to different opinions). This just goes to show that this wasn't a simple dolly that was missed or that should've been "easily" taken.
I suck at catches lol. But you can clearly see he circled around when he didnt need to. Ideally I wouldve judged it better and not taken those extra steps. And yeah it was not a dolly. No doubt. Those catches are very tricky but nonetheless can be taken.
Anyway the clear debate indicates theres no right or wrong opinion. So yeah whatever.
Easy for us and the commies in the AC room to say looking at a replay. I think what happened there was that he anticipated the ball to go to his left looking at the shot the batter played. Also keep in mind that it's tough when you are behind the batter as it takes that extra half a second to notice the ball as opposed to fielding at say mid-on and having a clear view.
