Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga says that there are certain anomalies in the new fitness test process in place by Sri Lanka cricket.

SLC has been very strict on fitness of players before considering for selection for any tour/ series. Several key players have missed out on selection due to failing either the 2km run or the skin fold test.

In a video uploaded in his YouTube channel, Malinga says that it would have been ideal if the cricket officials had given appropriate time for the cricketers to prepare for these tests. He suggested that at least 3 months time should have been provided.

He also said that trainers and coaches also should be more informed about the procedures involved in these tests.

Turn on English subs there if you want the translation. It's quite accurate.

It’s not just over as yet. The eight minute 30 seconds given for the two kilometer run is just average standard. It is supposed to get stiffer by next year where players are supposed to finish the run in less than eight minutes, like it is done in rest of the world.

Head Coach Arthur and Director of Cricket Tom Moody have got good reason to argue as well. If Sri Lanka’s fast bowling coach can finish two kilometers in less than seven minutes and 30 seconds at the age of 47, why not the players who are 20 years younger than him.

Fitness is the key to success. I am glad they are cracking down on it. However, high and mighty, they need to be kicked out, no exceptions. But, Mali is correct, a 3 month timeline and warning is needed, for them to meet the standards. I am all for the 8 minute timeframes. If Vaasy could push himself into twilight years, why cant others do it. Hopefully this will bring out a leaner and meaner Bhanuka
I agree with Malinga that players should be given sufficient time to adjust to a new fitness regime. Having done the Yo-Yo test for a few years, they should have been give time to adjust to the 2km runs and skinfold test, specially with lockdowns and other restrictions in place for the last 16 months or so.
I didn't watch it in full. Not sure if he touched on this. They did two fitness tests in quick succession recently. Didn't read about it in detail because I don't follow bilateral ODI, but I thought that was weird.

You run a fitness test and select players for tour A. Then you do another even before the first game of tour A to select players for tour B which is like 4 weeks away. Is that how other teams do it?

I propose Bada to change his signature to " I don't follow bilateral ODIs" cos I am fed up with seeing the same in his posts for the last 10 years.
