Tbh I never understood why trinity owning Asgiriya was such a big deal. We would play at most 2 tests there a year. AT MOST. Surely the two parties could have arrived at some deal. So much red tape bullshit.

IIRC, Trinity was reluctant to release the ground in advance for test matches. I think the curators need two months to prepare a pitch for a test match.

Test Pitch
Takes eight weeks of preparation, with the last week being much more intensive.

I guess that is a valid concern but surely the SLC could have compensated for that and arranged for trinity to play elsewhere during this period. I just think its a bs excuse.

How do state sides and CC organise themselves around a test schedule then?

I think SLC thought it's more viable to have a ground of their own rather than pay a third party which is not a bad option at all.

yea the reason for building Palle is obvious. i am talking more about the past

so let's check this. apart from international's does palle get used for any domestic cricket? ODI's ? 2020's at least?
IIRC we didn't play much in asgiriya after Asif destroyed us
I am confident Pallekelle has been used for domestic matches but I cant remember off the top of my head. Have to check it.
Last Test played at Asgiriya was the one where Murali got the record. Had nothing to do with the venue assisting visiting sides afaik. SLC and Trinity couldn't reach an agreement. Obviously SLC wanted their own ground.

They need to have Kandy team's home matches at Pallekele if this new provincial plan is going ahead.

A whole provincial tournament thingy was held there circa 2015.. Can't remember the name..

Pallekale may not be as result oriented as Asgiriya but there is no way they're going back to Asgiriya. The facilities at the two venues are world's apart. Miss watching test cricket at Asgiriya though..
SF and final in Kurunegala in this tournament
